What is Wood Therapy? pt. 1

Wood therapy is a form of massage that incorporates both manual lymphatic drainage techniques and wooden tools aimed to contour the body. The wooden tools helps to break down fascial adhesions and smooth out your fascia. By doing this it promotes a reduction of the appearance of cellulite. Wood therapy also temporarily elevates your internal body temperature, which may temporarily boost your metabolism. Lastly, wood therapy utilizes the lymphatics system to remove excess waste and fat via urine, bowel, and/or sweat.

A typical session can last 45-60 minutes and with proper technique, pain and discomfort is minimal. Typically 8-12 Sessions 1-2x a week and then taking it from there. Within the session there are 3 phases:

  1. Lymphatic stimulation: This step starts to stimulate more blood flow, increases body temperature, and primes the body for the second step.

  2. Fat and cellulite breakdown: The second phase is where we begin to break down fascial adhesions, cellulite, and fat.

  3. Contour: The final phase of your wood therapy appointment brings the first two steps together. We mold what we just broke down and push it towards the lymph nodes to allow your body to remove the excess waste.

to prepare for your wood therapy appointment it is best to drink plenty of water, not eat the hour before, and bonus points if you are able to get a work out in after your appointment to continue stimulating your lymphatic system.

Wood therapy is not recommended if you have a history of cancer, are currently pregnant, or have a skin condition.
